Joshua Partida, Director of Bands

Mr. Partida is in his 11th year of teaching and his first year as the Director of Bands at Alvin High School.

Upon graduation from Stroman High School (Victoria, TX), Mr. Partida earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. While in Kingsville, he was trumpet section leader in both the Wind Ensemble and The Jazz Band I. He was also the Head Marching Tech for The Javelina Marching Band (08).

Prior to his current position, Mr. Partida was the Director of Bands at Victoria West High School. Under his baton, the Victoria West Band of Warriors had multiple years of consecutive Sweepstakes Awards, appeared in multiple Area Marching contests (ranking as high as 7th place), advanced several students to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, placed several students in the District, Region and Area bands and earned Reserve Grand Champion at marching contests across the Area.

Prior to his time in Victoria, Mr. Partida was the Director of Bands in the Edna Independent School District. During his time in Edna, Mr. Partida had consistent Superior Ratings at the Region Marching Contests and has taken the EHS Cowboy Band to two consecutive Area Marching Finals with a school-first an appearance at the UIL State Marching Contest in 2011.

Mr. Partida has been married to his high school sweetheart, Miranda, for 10 years. The Partidas have an awesome dog named Dee who is spoiled rotten, but the pride and joy in their lives is Ella, their daughter. She, as any parent would know, is their entire life.

In his free time, Mr. Partida enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Astros. He also loves to travel with ihs family, but his most favorite thing is being a good dad to Ella.

Mr. Partida’s professional affiliations include: the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmaster’s Association and the Texas Jazz Educator’s Association.

Patricia Rhoads, Assistant Director

Mrs. Rhoads is in her 6th year of teaching and her 4th year with the Alvin High School Band. Mrs. Rhoads is over woodwind instruction, directs the Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band II, and teaches AP Music Theory.

Mrs. Rhoads graduated from Crosby High School in 2004. She holds an Associate of Arts in Music from San Jacinto College and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Music in Education from the Sam Houston State University School of Music where she was also a member of the SHSU Bearkat Marching Band and SHSU Flute Studio (2009-2012).

Mrs. Rhoads was a member of the TCCBDA All-State Symphonic Band (2008) and the TTCCDA All-State Choir (2009), and is also an alumni member of Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Delta Pi. 

Mrs. Rhoads considers Dr. Matthew McInturff, Brian Gibbs, Kathy Daniel, Dr. Randy Snyder, Dr. Ken Booker, Dr. John Weinel, and Nick Luggerio to be her greatest teaching influences and values her time in their programs, classes, and studios. 

Mrs. Rhoads and her husband, TC, live in Kemah area with their three corgis, Roxie, Sadie, & Alfie, their great dane, Captain, and orange tabby cat, Bella.

Mrs. Rhoads’ professional affiliations include: the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmaster’s Association.

Lee Willis, Director of Percussion Studies



Maurice Wright, Color Guard Director

Mr. Wright is the director of the Alvin Color Guard, including the Marching Guard, Varsity Winter Guard, and JV Winter Guard. He began teaching at Alvin High School in 2013. He attended Conroe High School and is will soon graduate from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. Mr. Wright is an alumni member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and Code Black Winter Guard. He was a staff member for the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013.

Mr. Wright lives in Houston.
